Slow and Steady Growth

It seems appropriate that we use the verb ”to plant” in relation to the work of establishing a new congregation. The analogy is fitting in many respects, but also with regard to the growth of the new church. When you plant a tree you cannot stand besides it and expect a very quick and visible growth. But after several months and years, some growth is visible. Then sometimes new branches are attacked by pest or fungus, end up withering and need to be cut off. But in the next season there will be new branches growing.

During the past couple of years we have experienced several ups and downs, spiritual disease and withering. But every new season in the life of the church plant has brought new branches. Since a few months ago we have several new visitors who are attending regularly. Coming from different backgrounds and being in different stages on their journey of faith, some are still exploring the Reformed doctrines and practices, while others are ready to embrace them.

This Lord’s Day we were glad to receive into membership Nick, a young man who has been attending our church plant since last year. Nick is in the process of pursuing his undergraduate degree in Bucharest. We pray that the Evangelical Reformed Church of Bucharest might be a spiritual home and shelter for all those who the Lord brings to a Reformed understanding of the Gospel.
